Hero Worship or Reporting?
Reported by Deborah - July 5, 2004 -
After Carl Cameron gave his report of Kerry's campaign day, filled with his usual jabs and innuendo, Molly Hennenberg's syrupy report on Bush's day was almost nauseating. (7/04/04 Fox News Live 6:31 PM ET )
Cameron can rarely give Kerry even neutral coverage and positive feedback is out of the question. What starts out looking like responsible journalism will eventually morph into some level of negativity. Cameron describing Kerry's day in the Midwest, managed to throw in all the obligatory references. On Kerry's comment about separation of church and state, Cameron noted that Kerry was acting conservative even though his voting record is soo liberal. On Kerry's baseball game, Cameron acted as if Kerry didn"t really know how to play well. Then of course, Rita Cosby tossed in a few swipes at Teresa. Fox viewers were reminded in 5 minutes that Kerry was too liberal, his wife too rich and he wasn't really a regular Joe like them.
At 6:36 PM, Molly Hennenberg appeared, to tell viewers about Bush's day in West Virginia. Her eyes were glazed and her voice hushed with awe, saying that the
President gave a very patriotic speech. Then cut to Bush ranting about the terrorist threat. Hennenberg stated that Bush missed church because Air Force One had engine trouble. Then cut to Bush telling a cute joke about church sermons, his texas drawl kicked up a few notches for the cheering crowd. Fox viewers were reminded that Bush loves God and America; he will protect us from the enemy and he is just so darn likable.
