More Views, Less News from "Campaign Carl"
Reported by Ellen - July 3, 2004 -
"Campaign Carl" Cameron's report (video streamed from foxnews.com, "You Decide 2004" link), "John Kerry Looks to Appeal to Suburban, Midwestern Voters" was more like a talking points memo from the Republican National Committee than a news story. Here are some of Campaign Carl's comments:
"Kerry sought to persuade heartland voters that he can relate," (implies it's a campaign ploy).
"(Kerry) suggesting that his press corps suffers the out-of-touch Washington elitism that critics often attributed to Kerry as a 20-year Washington veteran from liberal Massachusetts."
"Kerry hopes to downplay his life of privilege and cast himself as an everyman."
"The problem with Kerry may be who he is: an Ivy League millionaire who has rubbed elbows with the world's wealthiest sophisticates while most of rural America is considered Bush country," (as if George W. Bush is an everyman, not a privileged, Ivy League millionaire and Saudi Royal elbow-rubber? Bet you won't find those connections mentioned on Fox News.)
"Kerry's praise for the heartland sounds a lot like something President Bush might say."
What Campaign Carl didn't report - policy, issues, positions - is as significant as what he did.
Is this news or propoganda? I report, you decide.
