More Shameless Self-Promotion

Reported by Melanie - July 1, 2004 -

NASCAR drivers Rusty and Kenny Wallace were guests today in a segment aired toward the end of Dayside w/Linda Vester (July 1, 2004, 1:00 p.m. ET). Introducing them, Vester quickly said something about a "new reality show on FX...The NASCAR 360." (Comment follows.)

COMMENT: The FX Channel is owned by News Corporation, Fox News' parent company. This matters because Fox screams when a network like CBS puts Richard Clarke on its 60 Minutes program, (as it did in April just before Mr. Clarke testified before the 9-ll Commission), and permits him to mention his just-published book, Against All Enemies, during the interview. (Against All Enemies was published by a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster, which is a subsidiary of Viacom, which owns CBS.) We think it's extraordinarily hypocritical for Fox News to shamlessly promote News Corporation's products, and not mention the connection, if they expect others to do the same.
