Link That's Still Missing

Reported by Eleanor - July 1, 2004 -

On The O'Reilly Factor (July 1, 8:10 p.m. ET), Jonathan Schanzer, Washington Institute on Near East Policy, dutifully linked Sadam and al-Zarqawi for O'Reilly, expecting the viewer to stretch that connection to Osama bin Laden.

Schanzer placed al-Zarqawi into a "terrorist club" that included Osama bin Laden, saying that Zarqawi used northern Iraq as a base when he was fighting for the Taliban, and Sadam was still in power. Schanzer went on to say that he talked to "someone in jail - one person - who may have told him what he wanted to hear about the link between Sadam and al-Zaraqawi. (And that's the Osama bin Laden "link?")

O'Reilly said, "You have established beyond a reasonable doubt that they had links." (Who had links to whom?)

Comment: Huh? The name of this piece was "Link between Sadam and al Qaeda." That link sailed right over my head, O'Reilly. Fox is really scrapping the bottom of the barrel with this one in their search for the elusive Sadam/al Qaeda connection.
