Fox's Preemptive Attacks on Howard Stern
Reported by Melanie - June 30, 2004 -
Both yesterday (See "A Whole Show that Spun For Bush" posted in the Dayside category on 6-29-04.) and today (June 30, 2004), Fox has been on a bit of a bash Howard Stern kick. Today on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, I finally figured out why, after Neil Cavuto did a mini-bash of Stern at roughly 4:30 p.m. ET.
In February, Howard Stern's radio program was pulled off the air in six cities by Clear Channel radio because of Stern's profane language. Howard Stern was outraged and began speaking out about, among other things, freedom of speech issues. He also announced he would not vote for Bush in November.
Now, Howard Stern's program is adding nine new stations to it's lineup as well as re-entering four of the six cities it was pulled from back in February.
Howard Stern made this announcement today. (See this New York Times article.) Fox must have gotten wind of it a day or two ago, because that's when Fox's Stern bashing started.
COMMENT: Fox can't let someone with this kind of listenership, who's anti-Bush, go unchallenged, especially if they're expanding their reach, heaven forbid! So they've taken him on and are on a mission to convince their viewers that anything Howard Stern says or does is not to be considered because he's a pervert nobody.
