Daily Kerry Trashing in 30 Seconds
Reported by Eleanor - June 30, 2004 -
On the Fox Report (June 30, 7:14 p.m. ET), Carl Cameron performed his daily trashing of the Kerry campaign in record time. He talked faster than usual to get all the republican talking points in before the break. His topic of the day was the "Kerry False Ad."
Cameron stated that the intent of Kerry's new ad is to improve his "likability," but he "could create a whole new problem" with that ad. The ad starts out "showing Kerry as a family man," then presents him as the "author of a strategy to win the war on terror," referencing a 1997 book Kerry wrote, "where there is no mention of the terror of Osama bin Laden," and he presents Arafat "as a statesman and role model."
Cameron goes on to say, "On paper, Kerry's plan looks a lot like the Bush plan."
Comment: All this took less than 30 seconds. Cameron's job on Fox is to cover the Kerry campaign. Typically, he starts his coverage with something neutral, like Kerry's geographical location and what he's doing, and then Cameron proceeds to destroy whatever Kerry's message of the day is. This time, he didn't have time for his usual "fair and balanced" report, i.e., a description of where Kerry is (that's the fair part) then what's wrong with what Kerry has to say (that's the balanced part). He got right to the point today, which was to trash Kerry's ad. That, after all, is his job, and not the reporting of campaign news. If time is limited, get right to the Kerry bashing.
Umm. I wonder if Bush will ever write a book? With his reading, speaking and general language usage challenges, writing is probably not on Bush's list of goals for an ex-president. He can think about that in January.
