Battling Poll Numbers
Reported by Marie Therese - June 30, 2004 -
Big Story with John Gibson. Tuesday, June 29, 2004. 5:22 to 5:25 PM EDT.
Guests: Howard Wolfson, Democratic Strategist, News Corp Contributor
Ed Rogers, Republican Strategist, former aide to Reagan
Just prior to this segment, FOX Correspondent, Major Garrett, delivered a report on recent polling data, effective June 21-23, 2004. Contrary to its usual practice, FOX did not mention the name of the company that ran the poll. I found this interesting as they are usually quite up front about that fact that all of their polling is done by Opinion Dynamics.
During the discussion between Rogers and Wolfson, it became obvious that in one area FOX's poll numbers are significantly different from two other national polling organizations, the New York Times and CNN.
The topic of the poll was "Battleground States". On the question "Which candidate do you trust to deal with terrorism", both the Times and CNN polls show Kerry and Bush "essentially even" (Wolfson).
However, the FOX poll show Bush ahead by 19 points.
This significant discrepancy was mentioned but not delved into.
Comment: Why does the FOX poll diverge so from others? Is this the reason why FOX omitted the Opinion Dynamics logo from their videoclips?
Those are the BIG QUESTIONS for today!
