The Trials of Sadam
Reported by Eleanor - June 29, 2004 -
On Fox & Friends (June 29, 8:20 a.m. ET), the topic was the trial of Sadam. According to Walter Russell Mead, Senior Fellow U.S. Foreign Policy, "The trial will take awhile to prepare. There are so many crimes to choose from - international war crimes and crimes against the Iraqis." The discussion on Fox was limited to Iraqi legal custody and American physical custody. As if we have only two options.
Comment: Whatever happened to International custody? Sadam is guilty of international crimes, but international custody and an international tribunal are never included in the equation. Could it be that Sadam knows where all the bodies are buried, and not just those he killed himself? The collusion between the U.S. and Sadam regarding U.S. support and sales to Sadam of WMD and technical expertise during the Reagan and Bush I administrations cannot afford the spotlight that would shine on them during an international trial. We cannot allow Sadam to say anything he wants to say now, can we?
