Cheney on WMD in Iraq (June 25, 2004 Version)

Reported by Melanie - June 25, 2004 -

On today's Your World w/Neil Cavuto, the first half of the program was taken up with an interview Cavuto did earlier in the day with Dick Cheney. At one point, Cavuto asked Cheney where the WMD in Iraq are.

Cheney said that, "Oh, just yesterday" he learned that they'd "found additional shells...which tested positive for sarin." Cheney then went on about Saddam gassing the Kurds and other well known events and then said: "Oh, we found a shell the other day that had been wired up with sarin." (Emphasis added.)

He concluded: "It's as if people are goin' back trying to scrub Saddam clean here."

COMMENT: Dick, people aren't trying to scrub Saddam clean. We know he was a very bad man. That's not the point. The point is, do "additional shells" and "a shell," constitute WMD such that it justifies (as of today) 851 Americans dead; 4,950 injured, and anywhere from 4,000 to 12,000 Iraqi dead? Neil, you're a journalist - ask him!
