The Cookies Are Fair & Balanced
Reported by Eleanor - June 24, 2004 -
Another example of Fox's "fair and balanced" coverage could be seen this morning (June 24, 7:25 am ET) on Fox & Friends. The election campaign was discussed with Nicolle Devenish, Bush Communications Director. Steve Doocy cited a Pew poll saying that Bush has "the highest number of positives in recent history, while Kerry has the lowest."
Doocy continued with, "The less 'they' see of Kerry, the higher his poll numbers." Brian Kilmeade came back with, "People focus on progress with the War on Terror, with Iraq front and center" (putting Iraq, again, into the War on Terror). Also, "They're seeing progress on the economy."
E.D. Hill chimes in with an observation that "the President and Vice President are honest," (compared with the dishonesty of their democratic opponents).
This Fox dialogue sets up Devenish nicely, as she continues with, "The Kerry coalition of the wild-eyed, and the rage filled speeches of Al Gore and the Michael Moore movie are something to watch."
Doocy ends the segment with a comment about the race between Teresa Kerry's "Heinz cookies" and Laura Bush's chocolate chip cookies.
Comment: The "fair and balanced" was missing in action, except for the cookie contest - the only area where they failed to take sides.
