O'Reilly Revises the News and Censors His Critics

Reported by Ellen - June 24, 2004 -

This just in: On Al Franken's radio program on Air America, 11:53 am MDT, Al's guest, David Cole, told about a recent appearance on the O'Reilly factor. Waiting to be interviewed, Cole watched O'Reilly start his opening segment on the 9/11 Commission. O'Reilly wanted to say that the Commission had found a link between Al Qaeda and Iraq. But the clip of Thomas Keane, 9/11 commissioner said there was no tie. Cole saw O'Reilly stop the tape and re-do it with a quote of Keane saying there was some contact between Al Qaeda and Iraq. (News Hounds in the know are aware that this RNC spin is a major Fox talking point, one that all the hosts and anchors seem to be instructed to drive home again and again).

When Cole's turn came to appear on the show, O'Reilly criticized a recent New York Times piece, accusing the Times of censoring news in order to spin its liberal agenda. When Cole pointed out that he had just seen O'Reilly do the same thing with the 9/11 Commission report, O'Reilly "went berserk," in Cole's words. Cole's comments were censored out of the broadcast.

I nominate O'Reilly to a stint in the News Hounds doghouse.
