Muting the Messenger

Reported by Ellen - June 24, 2004 -

In the ironically titled "You Decide 2004" segment today, 8:34 am MDT, our so-called fair and balanced host, Bridget Quinn, had two guests to discuss the presidential election, particularly in regard to Florida. Every time guest Michael Feldman, former advisor to Al Gore, mentioned why the polls are bad news for Bush, she interrupted him with a curt, "Alright," then moved on to Republican strategist Rick Davis for comments. This happened not once, not twice but three times. Need I mention that Davis was never interrupted with his positive-for-Bush interpretation?

A News Hound pat on the back goes to Michael Feldman who conveyed his points calmly, clearly and informatively despite the barriers erected by the obviously biased host.

For those interested in the details, Feldman's point was that Kerry's slight lead over Bush in Florida is remarkable given that he's a relative unknown whose campaign in Florida has just begun and that people already know Bush. "The polls have to worry Bush," Feldman said before being interrupted by the Fox host. Davis' not very convincing rebuttal was that Bush is increasing his base. We know Bush has to do more than that to win. The pollsters I have read all say the election will come down to the swing voters.

They can call the segment anything they want, try to spin the news the way they want, but they can't disguise the scent of truth from the news hounds!
