Dueling Polls

Reported by Melanie - June 24, 2004 -

Yesterday on Your World w/Neil Cavuto, Ed Gillespie (RNC Chair) and Terry McAuliffe (DNC Chair) were on to discuss the Presidential election. At the very end of the segment, Terry McAuliffe rejoiced in a new Washington Post/ABC News poll showing Kerry up eight points over Bush.

Today on Your World, Cavuto rejoiced at a brand new "Fox News/Opinion Dynamics" poll, showing basically the opposite. The results: Bush: 47%, Kerry: 40%, Nader: 3%, Undecided: 10%.

COMMENT: Part of me just doesn't believe this poll was actually conducted. (Over time, we will likely raise many more questions on this site about Fox's use of polls. Stay tuned.) Cavuto didn't mention anything yesterday about a "new poll coming out tomorrow." That this appeared today seems suspicious. On the other hand, if a poll really was conducted, I wonder about the wording of the question. Whatever happened, in Fox land, this wipes out that Washington Post/ABC News poll mentioned yesterday and Bush is now back on top. Not to worry.
