Losing the Fight

Reported by Eleanor - June 23, 2004 -

On MSNBC Countdown w/Keith Olbermann (June 23, 8:15 pm ET), Alex Witt interviewed Steve Coll of the Washington Post about the book, "Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror" by Anonymous, who is a "secret witness" before the 9/11 Commission. It seems that both Coll and Andrea Mitchell, who interviewed Anonymous in shadows, know who Anonymous is.

During the Mitchell interview, Anonymous stated that the U.S. is losing the war on terror due to the war on Iraq. The Iraq war is "a gift to Bin Laden" as it takes resources needed to fight the real war on terror.

Witt asked Coll what he knows about Anonymous. Coll responded, "He's a credible counter terrorism officer - a seasoned professional."

Witt then asked, "Why did he write the book?"

Coll responded, "He's passionate about his views, and he wants to be heard."

In a Brassey, Inc. description at Brassey's Imperial Hubris, according to the author, the greatest danger for Americans confronting the Islamist threat is to believe—at the urging of U.S. leaders—that Muslims attack us for what we are and what we think rather than for what we do. Blustering political rhetoric "informs" the public that the Islamists are offended by the Western world's democratic freedoms, civil liberties, inter-mingling of genders, and separation of church and state. However, although aspects of the modern world may offend conservative Muslims, no Islamist leader has fomented jihad to destroy participatory democracy. The book goes on sale in August 2004.

Comment: I'll bet you won't see this book reviewed on Fox, unless to dispute its contents and expose the identity of the author, if it gets too popular.
