Irony is Dead

Reported by Nancy - June 23, 2004 -

Fox spent the morning on endlessly repeated speculation (masquerading as discussion) trying to tie Zarqawi personally to every incident that's happened in the Middle East lately, including the kidnapping & murder of every hostage.

Talking about a new threat by Zarqawi to kill Allawi, one of the interviewees was Tom McInerney (USAF Lieut Gen, ret), who actually said -- without irony! -- that Allawi could use this positively by saying to the Iraqi people "We don't need foreigners to take our country from us." Then there was Brigitte Quinn (at 11:15 am ET), saying that Paul Johnson was the last hostage murdered. Later (11:34 am ET), Geraldo Rivera interviewed General David Petraeus, & twice said that Zarqawi beheaded Kim Sung-il. Later still (11:46 am ET), Bob Sellers mentioned that the US air strikes in Fallujah might not have killed Zarqawi, but are thought to have killed some of his "lieutenants". There was even an oblique reference to the poison bomb plot in Amman, again with the Zarqawi implication.

Comment: You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried. According to Fox, Zarqawi is a superman who can be in many places at the same time.
