"Trial Lawyers"

Reported by Melanie - June 22, 2004 -

Terry Keenan substituted for Neil Cavuto today on Your World. One segment was a discussion between Keenan, Bob Beckel ("Democratic strategist") and David E. Johnson (CEO of Strategic Vision) on John Kerry's quest for a running mate. Keenan said: "he doesn't have too many choices" and "he doesn't have that many Democrats to choose from."

Then, her choice line: "Certainly John Edwards is very likeable, certainly he could hold his own in his state given his trial lawyer status." (Emphasis added.)

COMMENT: First of all, Keenan gives the overall impression that there just isn't much Democratic VP material out there, almost implying that anyone Kerry picks will be second rate no matter who it is. Then, she gets in a dig by being sure to mention Edwards' "trial lawyer" status, with all the negative implications those two words have. We can be sure that if Kerry does pick John Edwards as his VP, we'll hear the words "trial lawyer" over and over and over on Fox right up until November 2.
