HarperCollins Books

Reported by Judy - June 22, 2004 -

Another of the long arms of Fox's parent corporation, News Corp., is book publisher HarperCollins. Authors of books published by HarperCollins appear on Fox News, and rarely do network personnel make clear that they are promoting a book published by a sister company. Ironically, this is a failing Fox News personnel frequently accuse mainstream media of possessing.

Here are some recent examples:

Stephen F. Hayes, author of How al Qaeda's Collaboration with Saddam Hussein Has Endangered America, was a guest on Heartland with John Kasich on June 12, at 7:30 p.m. EDT and on Hannity and Colmes on June 18, appearing at 9:24 p.m. EDT. He also got a brief mention by Bill Kristol, Fox News political analyst, when he appeared on Fox News Live with Jon Scott at 9:35 a.m. EDT on June 23.

Imam Rauf, author of What Is Right with Islam, was interviewed about his book by Neil Cauto at 4:08 p.m. EDT June 23. The book cover was shown but during the three-minute interview, Cavuto did not mention that the book was published by HarperSanFrancisco, a division of HarperCollins, which is owned by you-know-who.
