Kerry Coverage

Reported by Judy - June 21, 2004 -

Newshounds have caught Fox News more than once ignoring John Kerry in its daily coverage while showing George Bush walking across the White House ...

lawn in a suit, waving to cameras as he prepared to get on a helicopter. On June 21, "Fox and Friends" began its coverage at 8:33 a.m. EDT with Wendell Goler at the White House talking over such a video clip, discussing Bush's trip to Ohio to promote his faith-based initiative and raise more money.

Surprisingly, Fox followed Goler's piece with a short report on Kerry, showing the Democratic presidential nominee vacationing at Nantucket. At 8:34 a.m. EDT, Fox and Friends co-hosts Steve Doocy, Brian Kilmeade, and E.D. Hill mostly used the spot to remind viewers that Kerry's wife is wealthy. When Doocy noted that despite her wealth, she cannot contribute to Kerry's campaign because their personal funds are held separately, Hill pounced on the statement.

"What she's saying is she doesn't trust him. ... If you don't trust your spouse to be fiscally (responsible), you don't have a joint checking account," Hill claimed. Never mind that many working spouses value the independence of having their own accounts, Hill was determined to turn even the most minor story on Kerry into a negative attack on his character.
