Bush Changed the Subject

Reported by Eleanor - June 19, 2004 -

On the Fox Report (June 19, 7:34 p.m. ET), Rebecca Gomez reported that in Bill Clinton's book, "My Life," Clinton stated that he told George Bush that Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden were the country's greatest threat. Bush showed no interest and changed the subject. When asked about this Clinton comment, the White House responded, "We don't do book reviews." Gomez immediately followed this report with the observation that a NY Times review of the Clinton book says it is "sloppy, self-indulgent, and dull."

Comment: The Gomez report of the White House response and the negative critique of the book distracted the listener's attention from the issue raised by Clinton that Bush showed zero interest in Osama Bin Laden and terrorism when he took office as president. All the evidence points to that lack of interest continuing right up to 9/11. Shooting the messenger is much easier than examining the message, and such an examination could be very messy for Bush since it's undoubtedly true. Otherwise, he would have denied it.
