Because He Could

Reported by Eleanor - June 17, 2004 -

''I did something for the worst possible reason. Just because I could,'' Clinton says of his infidelity. ''I think that's just about the most morally indefensible reason anybody could have for doing anything.'' (AOL News, June 17)

This is not the way Fox is reporting this Clinton statement. All day today, June 17 (last heard on The Big Story w/John Gibson at 5:47 pm ET), Gibson simply states Clinton's comment as, "He said he did it because he could - because he had this vast power," minus Clinton's qualifiers, plus Gibson's.

Update on June 18: Fox News at 5:27 pm (just before going to a commercial) put the following note on the screen with no comment: "Wonder what else Clinton might have done just because he could. We should be glad he was distracted by Monica."

Comment: Taking something out of context is always handy when you want it to appear as something it's not. That's a lie of omission. Clinton still forgets that his detractors are not self-deprecating, and they're totally merciless when it comes to making him look bad.
