NATO Bashing

Reported by Judy - June 15, 2004 -

Fox News may have a new sport to replace U.N. bashing. Now that the U.N. has passed resolutions endorsing the interim government in Iraq, Fox and the Republicans (same thing) can't get as much mileage out of criticizing the U.N., so it is going after another European-dominated organization -- NATO.

On Fox News Live with Jon Scott on June 15, Scott pushed the line that NATO needs to send troops to Afghan or Iraq to take some of the burden off the U.S.

During an interview with senators Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, and Jack Reed, D-Rhode Island that began at 9:14 a.m. EDT, Scott used the appearance of Afghan leader Karzai before Congress to push the NATO-needs-to-do-more theme. Lobbing a softball at Hutchison, Scott asked if it was appropriate for NATO to be involved in places like Afghan and Iraq. "It's essential," she said, adding later that she hoped "Europe will step up to the plate."
