Diss the "Liberal" Media & Spin a Happy Iraq All in One

Reported by Melanie - June 14, 2004 -

In the middle of today's Dayside w/Linda Vester, Vester holds up and shakes a copy of the New York Times and reads the title of an article "above the fold:" "In Race to Give Power to Iraqis, Electricity Lags." (By James Glanz, printed 6-14-04)

Vester shakes her head and says "You have to wonder sometimes if it's all that true" and that some coverage "seems selective, if not downright inaccurate."

Enter Brig. Gen. Merdeth W.B. Temple, "just back from Iraq." Temple tells us that we've "made tremendous progress" there and that things are "better than they certainly were before the war."

Vester says: "Guess nobody told the Times." She then thanks Temple with "we appreciate you giv'in us some fair and balanced coverage to this story."

COMMENT: A Brigadier General in the US military is going to give a "fair and balanced" report on what's going on in Iraq? Do Fox viewers really believe this? Go to websites like Fair.org, MediaMatters.org, and Cursor.org, just to name a few of the hundreds of excellent media-oriented websites available.

Then again, this is the same "news" outlet whose viewers, more than those who get their news from other sources, think there's a link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11.
