Gen. Sanchez Gets Promoted
Reported by Eleanor - May 28, 2004 -
On the Judy Woodruff CNN program with Bob Novak at 3:50 p.m.ET, the discussion centered on the promotion of Gen. Ricardo Sanchez to 4-Star General. He was the military head of the Abu Ghraib prison during the period in 2003 when the prisoner abuses took place.
The NY Times on May 24 states that a captain at the prison, in exchange for immunity, is testifying that Gen. Sanchez was at the prison and witnessed some of the abuse. Brig Gen. Janis Karpinski, also said that General Sanchez visited a military intelligence unit at Abu Ghraib at least three times in October, when some of the worst abuses were taking place. And while General Sanchez has said he did not learn of the abuses until Jan. 14, General Karpinski said his top deputy, Maj. Gen. Walter Wojdakowski, was present at a meeting in late November at which there was extensive discussion of a Red Cross report that cited specific cases of abuse.
Woodruff and Novak, when discussing the Sanchez promotion, said that democrats are upset about the promotion. What have they been smoking!! It's not just the democrats they need to worry about, but the opinion of the entire world!! Whatever happened to "demotions" or getting fired for something like this? How about prosecution?? Even if credible witnesses were not saying that Sanchez knew about the abuses, it's just as damning if he DIDN'T know. Either way, it demonstrates gross incompetence, dereliction of duty, collusion or even ordering them to do it!!
Comment: This promotion of Sanchez is tantamount to taunting our enemies with another "Bring 'em on!" or worse. The Bush Administration obviously believes they can do anything and get away with it, and it looks like they can. Where is the opposition??
